Since
his first 12" release in 2002, Ghost has established himself as
one of the UK's top hip hop producers, albeit one with a difference.
His deeply musical approach makes him stand out from the pack and
takes him into territories most hip hop producers wouldn't venture
into. This mix CD does exactly that as Ghost showcases some new
productions alongside some of his influences. The mix takes in hip
hop, soul, beats, leftfield ish, electro and even some drum and
bass.
Ghost
released a number of singles on Breakin Bread alongside a number
of productions for MC's on other labels (Lowlife, Receptor, Suspect-Packages).
His debut album "Seldom Seen Often Heard" was released in 2006 to
critical acclaim, strong sales and support from the likes of Zane
Lowe, Mr Scruff, Skitz, Excalibah, Gilles Peterson, Semtex, and
a host of international DJ's. His music has been licensed all over
the world (he's a bit of a superstar in Japan) and been included
on many a mix CD and compilation (most lately on DJ Yoda's Fabric
Mix).
It's
always been a struggle to describe his style because his production
refuses to be categorised. It's got that Boom Bap feel, it's deep
and layered, it's bringing a new edge to the scene and it's just
dope.
Since
his debut album Ghost has been touring extensively in the UK and
Europe (including a stint at Glastonbury) and he's also found time
to work on a number of different projects.
Before
these projects are released to the world this mix perfectly encapsulates
his move away from traditional hip hop. The CD does what it says
on the cover as Ghost shows you what he's really about. The mix
features tracks from DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Bonobo, Photek and others
alongside some new Ghost Instrumentals and a track from his Lingua
Franca Soul project. Future Ghost projects including Lingua Franca
(Soul, The Invisible Inc (Synth Hip Hop) and some more solo work
from the man himself. Watch this space……
